You must see the boardwalk when you visit Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. It is a wonderful place for a peaceful stroll through the forest to see wildlife up close. Perfect for making photographs.
Located just behind the Visitor Center, the walk winds through trees, around ponds, and over the wetland.
Don’t miss the turtles in the pond on the left side just at the beginning. They are usually out sunbathing, and some are pretty large.
Just around the first bend, you can watch the birdfeeder tucked in the trees on the right side of the path. There are usually beautiful small birds near there.
When you enter the trees, look to the right for the owl treehouse. During the spring, you may see an owl poking its head out.
There are usually many pollinators buzzing around when the flowers are blooming.
This is just one of the many activities at the wildlife refuge. Here are the websites for the information center and the refuge if you want more information about more activities.
We really enjoy the refuge and visit it anytime we are near. I hope you have a great time if you decide to stop by.
